The operation of a crawler transporter is based on a combination of robust mechanics and efficient traction systems. The machine consists of a compact chassis mounted on tracks, a combustion engine or electric motor, a body or loading platform and a control station.
There are various types of drives, including hydraulic, which is simpler and suitable for light use; hydrostatic, which is smoother and more versatile, ideal for difficult environments; and electric, which is quiet and suitable for enclosed environments or sensitive contexts such as greenhouses or nurseries.
