Lawn Mower Classifications

Based on various classification criteria, lawn mowers can be categorized as follows:
1. By Movement: Intelligent semi-automatic, towed, push-behind, ride-on, and tractor-mounted.
2. By Power: Human and animal power, engine power, electric power, and solar power.
3. By Operation: Reel, rotary, side-mount, and flail.
4. By Requirement: Flatbed, half-cut, and top-cut.
Handheld rotary mowers generally feature a bladeless cutting disc and use a high-strength nylon rope as the grass cutting element. Their flexible structure is impervious to rigid obstacles, making them relatively safe and easy to replace.
Lawn mowers operate in either reciprocating or rotary modes. Their high mowing efficiency significantly saves time, while also contributing to environmental protection and environmental beautification. Their simple, convenient, and efficient operation makes them widely used. These compact machines are suitable for small and medium-sized lawns. The stubble height after mowing should be determined according to your requirements, making them very convenient to use. When mowing the grass, you can only mow horizontally along the slope, not along the slope. Modern mowers are more convenient to operate.

Hanging type
In terms of form, there are two types of hanging mowers: one is hung on the side and the other is carried on the back. In comparison, the side-mounted type is lighter, more durable, and more efficient.
Reasons for durability of side-mounted mowers:
(1) In theory, using roughly the same engine and achieving the same function, the more complex the structure, the more factors that may cause failure. The back-mounted type has a more complex structure, so it is more prone to problems. In actual use, the back-mounted type is more prone to problems.
(2) In actual practice, the domestic brush cutter market is basically a professional market, which requires durable machines. Therefore, there are basically no back-mounted types in the domestic market, and almost all of them are side-mounted types.

Hanging type mowers
Simple structure, light weight, and maneuverable and flexible. There are three types: front-mounted, side-mounted, and rear-mounted. The rear-mounted type is the most widely used. A reciprocating mower consists of a cutterhead, a blade drive, a cutterhead lift, safety devices, and a grass retaining device. The operating principle and construction of the cutterhead are essentially the same as those used in grain harvesters.

The blades used are either smooth-edged or toothed. Smooth-edged moving blades are generally used. The cutterhead drive is similar to that of a grain harvester, often employing an offset crank-connecting rod mechanism and a swing-ring mechanism. Due to the high density and moisture content of the grass, the average speed of the moving blades is higher than that of a grain harvester, typically ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 m/s. The cutterhead lift is typically hydraulically operated, providing quick and easy lifting and ensuring the cutterhead's adaptability to complex terrain.

Reciprocating mowers cut grass using the relative shearing motion of the moving and fixed blades on the cutterhead. They are characterized by a clean cut and low power consumption per unit cutting width. However, they are less adaptable to varying grass growth conditions and are prone to clogging. They are suitable for flat natural pastures and artificial pastures with average yields. The high vibration of the cutter during operation limits operating speed. The cutting speed of the rotating blade is generally less than 3 meters per second, and the forward speed is generally 6 to 8 kilometers per hour.

Rotary mowers: The blades on the high-speed rotating disc impact the grass, achieving a cutting speed (circumferential speed at the base of the blade edge) of up to 60 to 90 meters per second. They operate smoothly and can reach forward speeds of over 15 kilometers per hour. The choice of blade for a lawn mower is crucial and determines the quality of the mower. Mowing with a lawn mower is most effective when the grass is 10-13 centimeters (cm). If the grass is too tall, it should be cut in two stages: mowing the upper section first, then the lower section. When using the mower, hold the handle with both hands and maintain a slight angle toward the fruit tree to ensure that the cut grass falls as close to the tree as possible. Using a medium throttle and a steady forward speed can save fuel. When encountering excessive resistance or an obstacle, the blades immediately swing back to prevent damage. Blade edges can be swapped if worn. Replacing blades is also easier than with reciprocating mowers. In addition to the safety devices similar to those on reciprocating mowers, rotary mowers also have a protective cover above the cutter to ensure personal safety.
